                             JEN'S STORY

My name is Jen. I am a fighter of RSD, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart, that you are taking the time to learn about RSD. Please spread the word!

I was beyond touched last year to see so many people come out and support this cause. I heard quite a few times that day, "what is RSD?"

RSD is a chronic pain condition where the brain and nerves misfire, constantly sending pain signals to the affected area. The pain I feel varies from minute to minute.

Mostly, it feels like a blade has impaled through my hand, ripping apart my fingers while bleach is being dumped on the wound, and while all this is happening, experiencing sporadic electric shocks up and down my arm and through my hand. My skin is so sensitive that brushing my arm against anything feels like razor blades cutting right down to the bone. The kicker? That is a good day. Even worse? I have been feeling this everyday for 4 years now.

There is no cure.

There are other symptoms such as swelling, excessive sweating, change of colour, sensitivity to temperature and weather changes, as well as others, but these symptoms come and go as they please. They are not constant.

Pain is a constant.

A few years ago, my father had broken his hand and he said "our bodies talk to us in many different ways". This, in my opinion, is so true.

You can tell A LOT about yourself, just by the kind of poop you have, the colour of your pee, the way your nails grow, even the taste in your mouth.

This statement got me thinking, this is not the way with RSD.

The way a body of an RSD sufferer talks to them are so unpredictable. This disease is much like a 7 year old child menace. It acts like a puppeteer, causing the nerves to lie to our brains, in return causing our limbs to act out in ways they shouldn't.

Quite frankly, I do not enjoy being a puppet.

We need to, and will one day find a way to discipline this disrespectful child.
